THE PROS AND CONS OF LITHIUM BATTERIES
30th Jan 2023
Lithium batteries' popularity is growing every day because of their many benefits and advantages over other battery types. They are commonly used on many applications ranging from RVs, van conversions, trailers, backup power sources, and much more. In this blog, we will be discussing the Pros and Cons of Lithium Batteries.
Pros
Perfect for Deep Cycle Applications: Lithium Batteries are perfect for applications such as Overlanding Vehicles, Marine Vessels, as well as many more applications. Including the ones mentioned above. It’s also extremely efficient compared to other battery types. Making them great choices for your next project!
Longer Lifespan: Compared to other batteries, lithium tends to last longer, in terms of cycles. We don’t associate time with its lifespan because many variables go into a battery and how it operates. Such as how you charge it, how you maintain it, how/where it’s stored, and much more. Our 12V 100Ah Lithium battery will last 5x longer than a lead-acid battery.
Requires Less Maintenance: Every battery is different, but for the most part, Lithium batteries require less maintenance than the other battery types. Batteries such as Flooded, AGM, and Gel require a lot more maintenance just due to their internal physical makeup.
Weight: Lithium Batteries weigh less than other batteries on the market, making them easier to move and set up. Our 12V 100Ah Lithium Battery comes at about 23 lbs., making installation and setup easier than ever.
Cons
Temperature: All batteries are susceptible when it reaches colder temps. For this, we recommend storing your batteries in a controlled environment in terms of temperature, as this will further protect the battery's lifespan.
Slightly More Expensive: While this is the case in many instances. It doesn’t mean that Lithium batteries aren’t worth it. Sure, you may pay a little more upfront, but it will pay itself off within time as it will outlast other battery types with ease.
In conclusion, Lithium Batteries have many more advantages than disadvantages. As with everything though, there will be disadvantages to them. But as long as the positives outweigh the negatives, it’s worth going with Lithium Batteries for your Solar Setup.
