SHOULD YOU DISCONNECT YOUR SOLAR SYSTEM BETWEEN TRIPS?

17th Jul 2023

In this blog, we’ll discuss whether or not you should disconnect your solar system between trips or leave it connected. This is an important question because it can affect the performance and longevity of your solar panels, batteries, and other associated components within your system.

If you plan on not using your off-grid system for an extended period, it's best to disconnect your system to prevent any potential damage from occurring. We recommend going about this by covering your panels with something that the sun can’t penetrate and by using a Solar Disconnect Switch. By disconnecting your system, you won’t have to worry about any potential damage occurring.

However, if you're only going to be away from your off-grid system for a short period such as a few days or a week, you may be able to leave it connected without any issues. Although, we still recommend disconnecting the system via a Solar Disconnect Switch as an added failsafe.

Ultimately, the decision to disconnect your off-grid system between trips or leave it connected will depend on a variety of factors as well as your comfort level. With this being said, it’s always Newpowa’s recommendation to manually disconnect it and cover your panels to ensure the longevity and performance of your solar setup.
