IS COMBINING MULTIPLE PORTABLE SOLAR PANELS VIABLE?
6th Apr 2023
The big debate around solar power right now is the use of portable solar panels, and whether it is viable to combine multiple portable panels.
At first, combining multiple solar panels seems like an easy solution. But one thing you have to remember is that the more panels you combine, the less portable your setup becomes. However, portable panels are designed and intended to be used on their own. Whether that’s for charging RV batteries, backup battery banks, or portable generators.
This is why we don’t recommend combining multiple portable solar panels. If you need to move the solar panel every so often, you’ll have to devise another plan instead of combining them. Solar users tend to use two different systems independently as a workaround for this which consists of a fixated solar array as your main power source with a portable panel being a supplementary power source that can be used separately at your discretion.
For many of you who use solar power for your needs, the convenience of portability is key. For example, if you live in a rural area and use a generator for electricity, you may want to move your portable solar panel to a different area with better access to sunlight in order to charge said generator or your battery bank. Of course, the choice is yours.
As we close out this article, if you’re looking to have your portable solar panel moved around on occasion, you’d be better off using a single portable panel alongside your main solar array. It’s much more beneficial in this way, as is why most solar users tend to go this route.
