AGM BATTERY : LEOCH AGM DEEP CYCLE BATTERY 12V 100AH
30th Jun 2020
If you recall our blog “An Introduction to Off-grid Solar Application”, a solar system would not be complete without a battery, especially an AGM deep cycle battery.
What is a battery?
A battery is a unit that is composed of one or more electrochemical cells whose chemical reactions create a flow of electrons in a circuit. It can also be externally connected to power electrical devices. Simply put, it is a device that stores the electricity and power your day-to-day appliances. A battery would consist three main components: anode, cathode and electrolyte.
Car Battery vs. Solar Battery
Car Battery
Many of you might have wondered why the need for a solar battery while I have a perfectly good car battery. First, I would like to talk about how car batteries work. Nowadays, modern vehicles usually use lead-acid non-deep cycle batteries. Their main job is to start and ignite. This type of battery is better to provide a short burst of energy to start the engine and the rest would be left to the alternator in your car.
Flooded lead-acid batteries can produce electrons that can move around and generate electricity. Lead-acid is the most common model used for car batteries, other types might include wet cell and VRLA batteries.
Solar Battery
While some solar batteries also use lead-acid batteries, but they are designed to function in a very different way. The car battery is used for starting a vehicle, but will not satisfy the power need for a RV owner. Solar batteries are deep cycle batteries. They are designed to discharge over a long period instead of only able to provide a short burst of energy. AGM batteries are common among solar batteries.
AGM Battery
The full name for AGM is Absorbent Glass Mat. AGM batteries are sealed with specially made compound epoxy and they are using pressure-controlled vent valves. A flooded or wet battery would contain a series of liquid electrolyte, while AGM batteries store the electrolyte in a suspended form rather than liquid. Thus, this feature has let AGM battery be commonly referred as “maintenance-free batteries” since it does not need watering service.
Note that if the battery says AGM, it does not necessarily mean it is a deep cycle battery. Many companies are adopting the AGM technology but designs it for non-deep cycle purposes. Those will enjoy the benefits of AGM technology, but won’t be having the characteristics of a deep cycle battery.
Leoch 12V 100Ah Deep Cycle AGM Battery
From this month, we are proud to start the partnership with Leoch. It is an international high-tech enterprise that specializes in batteries and a variety of power-supply devices.
Introducing you the Leoch 100Ah 12V Deep Cycle AGM BatteryThe AGM deep cycle battery is leak-proof and spill-proof, with a very long discharge period. Because of the AGM technology, the battery is also maintenance-free. Combined with Deep Cycle and AGM, this Leoch 100Ah 12V enjoys the benefit of easy maintenance, good electrical reliability, lighter weight and low self-discharge.
With the compact design, whether it is for daily use or backup power, this Deep Cycle AGM battery is right for you. Some applications include but not limited to:
- UPS and EPS
- Emergency light
